II Chronicles 7:14 says:If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

I Thessalonians 5:17 says: “Pray without ceasing.”

God calls us to prayer. As Christians we know prayer is essential to our walk with God. It is the foundation of our relationship with Him. So why do we fail to pray as we should when we know how important prayer is? Obstacles from our enemy Satan and obstacles from our own fleshly desires sometimes distract us from prayer. Let’s arm ourselves together with the Word. If we understand what hinders prayer – we can overcome in Jesus’ Name!

1) Disobedience – Deut. 1:45; I Samuel 14:37; I Samuel 28:6

2) Secret Sin – Psalm 66:18

3) Indifference – Proverbs 1:28

4) No Mercy – Proverbs 21:13

5) Despising the Law – Proverbs 28:9

6) Blood Guiltiness – Isaiah 1:15

7) Iniquity – Isaiah 59:2; Micah 3:4

8. Stubbornness – Zechariah 7:13

9) Instability – James 1:6-7

10) Self- Indulgence – James 4:3

Revelation 3:20 says:

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

It’s time to become more devoted to prayer and the will of the Lord. Now that we have studied hinderances to prayer – we can examine ourselves and ask Jesus in His Name to remove our iniquities and help us to be more devoted to PRAYER!
