“We Need to Pray” Bible Lesson #3

Watch and Pray

The 3rd Lesson highlights for the “We Need to Pray” series discuss our need to watch our actions & attitudes, to be aware of the snares of our flesh and our enemy Satan. We accomplish this through building our prayer life and relationship with Jesus.

Luke 21:34-36 ” 34And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.  35For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.  36Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”

The Lord warns us to be mindful to be vigilant in prayer and be aware of what we are partaking in. Are we indulging ourselves too much in wordly things? Are we letting the cares of life take over our hearts and minds? The Lord welcomes us in 1 Peter 5:7 to unload our burdens.

1 Peter 5:7 says, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

Romans 13:1“And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.”

We must ask ourselves: If the Lord came for His people today- would I be considered ready to go?

1 Peter 4:7  says, “But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.”

Ephesians 6:18 “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”

Jeremiah 12:5  “If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?”

We need to examine ourselves to honestly see where our actions, thoughts and attitudes go against His word and take God’s correction with a grateful attitude. He calls us to prayer to keep us learning and growing and building a more fulfiling relationship with Him. He wants us be prepared to go home with Him.

Proverbs 3:5-12 says,” 5Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  6In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  7Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.  8It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.  9Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: 10So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.  11My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:  12For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.”
