We Need to Pray Lesson 5

Matthew 6:9-13 (King James Version)

9After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.  10Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.  11Give us this day our daily bread.  12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.  13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Jesus gave us an example of how to pray – not a prayer to recite! First of all, as we begin to pray we should address Him as Father, respecting His authority. Instead of giving the Lord our list of requests, let’s begin praying for His Kingdom and His Will. We need to acknowledge that everything we need – He will supply. If our prayers are to be effective, we must remember – if we can’t forgive others – Jesus cannot forgive us.

Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Let’s remember to put the Kingdom of God first in prayer! Here are more scriptures for study: Luke 11:1; Philipians 4:19; Hebrews 12:6; Matthew 6:25-33; Romans 14:17; Galatians 5:22-23; and Luke 11:9-13.
