Hesitating on the Edge of Greatness

Moses sent 12 spies to spy out the land of Canan and give a report on what they saw. 10 spies said the walls were too large and the giants were two big to conquer. 2 spies, though, were different. Caleb and Joshua had a different heart. They believed God would give them this land and told this to the people.

The children of Israel of course, chose to believe the 10 spies with a bad report, even though God told them the land of Canan was theirs to inhabit.

This scenario is still occurring today. We have been given promises from God, but we don’t always see the fulfillment of these promises as quickly as we would like to see them. Or maybe the obstacles in the way seem too large to overcome. Without faith and patience, we will listen to the bad report of the ten spies and go along with the majority who wants to give up.

If we want to be successful as Christians, we need the heart of Caleb and Joshua – who walked by faith and not by sight. Caleb and Joshua didn’t hesitate on the edge of greatness.

 Joshua 14:7-8 (King James Version)

7Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadeshbarnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart. 8Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my God.

Caleb later claimed Mount Hebron for his own.

Joshua 14:12-13 (King James Version)

12Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said. 13And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.

Ask Yourself:

*What has hindered you this past year?

*What has stopped you from gaining the things of God you desired?

It’s time to stop hesitating on the edge of greatness- and claim that mountain in faith believing! Let this be our New Year’s Resolution!
